I honestly can’t believe May is already over—like where did the month go?? School has grown increasingly hectic as we draw nearer to finals and if you live in New York, Regents exams, but despite it all, I still managed to have a decent reading month. Though to be fair two of the books I completed this month I was already halfway done with in April, but I’m counting them anyway.
I wouldn’t exactly call this a haul but I did get two books this month:
As you can probably tell if you look at my TBR for last month, I suck at following them but here are all the books I’m hoping to get to in June (this is an unrealistic list since I’ll be in the middle of final exams, but oh well):
Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard (halfway through, hoping to finish by the end of the week)
King’s Cage by Victoria Aveyard
War Storm by Victoria Aveyard
Caraval by Stephanie Garber
Legendary by Stephanie Garber
So far I’m really proud of my blog and myself for sticking with it and staying consistent! I’ve managed to post at least once every week (or at least once every ten days) and more recently I’ve been trying to get out two posts a week. I’ll probably have to put blogging on the back burner for June because of finals, but hopefully, I’ll still be able to get a few posts in.
MOVIES & TV SHOWS
I watched one movie and one tv show this month. The movie was Deadpool which was funny in parts but overall I found it to be too gratuitous. The tv show, on the other hand, has become my new obsession.
I watched season one of Penny Dreadful and I completely fell in love with it. It’s a psychological thriller that kind of follows the origin stories of a lot of classic horror characters in Victorian London. It’s very dark and very much a horror show but so well done in every way. The acting is amazing and the writing is as well. The dialogue between the characters is to me, the best part. Their conversations and interactions are so…poetic and almost hypnotic. I found myself just rewatching certain scenes because I loved the writing and how the actors delivered it so much, and I actually found myself pausing the show to write down the quotes. Part of me just wants to watch season one and take it in all over again.
I’m still listening to a lot of the same music from last month, but a new addition is the entire soundtrack from Penny Dreadful (that was another favorite aspect of the show). It’s so beautiful and haunting and I’ve just been listening to the pieces on repeat since I watched season one. I’m not going to list all the songs but it’s all on Spotify.
MEMORIES & MUSINGS
Really the most notable things for me this May were all the anticipated releases of mine that came out. I’ve gotten my hands on two so far (I’ll pick up Lifel1k3 and War Storm soon!) and I can’t wait to read them, either this upcoming month or next. Oh, and I guess another big thing is that I got my drivers permit and have signed up for driver’s ed classes which I’ll be taking for most of July. Honestly, the thought of driving absolutely terrifies me but I figure there’s really no avoiding it. As for June, my main focus is going to be surviving finals and regents and wrapping up the school year, and then it’ll finally be summer!
HOW WAS YOUR MAY? ANYTHING SUPER EXCITING HAPPEN? READ ANY REALLY GOOD BOOKS? LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS!
